Single Sex Services

A service for women

The women who use this site are seeking support from other women who may have faced similar experiences. Being a single-sex service allows us to offer a space where women can speak openly, build trust, and receive peer support in a context that feels safe and understood.

Our volunteers, coordinators and matching team are women. The relationships we facilitate are woman-to-woman, based on shared experience, empathy and mutual respect.

Why single-sex matters

Many of the women who come to us may have experienced domestic abuse, sexual violence, coercive control, isolation, or other forms of trauma where sex and power have played a part. A women-only environment can reduce fear, remove pressure, and help women feel heard without judgement.

Single-sex provision is recognised in UK equality law as a legitimate and important way to protect the dignity, safety and recovery of women who have been affected by male violence. We take that responsibility seriously.

What we mean by "women"

For the purposes of this service, "women" refers to adult human females. This definition allows us to maintain a consistent, safe and trauma-informed space for the women who have asked to be matched with female volunteers.

We respect that people hold different views on sex and gender. Our focus here is practical and protective: to honour the request of every woman who has told us she needs support from another woman.
